This has a real title because this piece is currently sitting in our student art show gallery and it needed a name.

Oh, and yet another drawing of mine. This time we had to choose something from nature to draw that had unique texture and patterns and we had to crop in tight. Yeah, I remember years ago I drew a pine cone and I wasn't thrilled but this time, I chose to try it again. I got horribly sick in the middle of drawing it and drawing while sick can produce some interesting results but they were good. Would you believe me if I told you that that "black" doesn't have an ounce of actual black in it? Just a bunch of colors mixed.

Colored pencil on "cream" Standford drawing paper.
Commission a piece like this.

Excellent work, and no I would never have guessed there is no black pigment in it, I didn't know such dark shades are even possible in color pencils without black... I guess it's a matter of paper quality too :)

Thank you! Paper quality is pretty important in the process of colored pencils. Layering is needed to get nice depth with the colors and without a proper piece of paper, your layering is limited to only 2 or 3 layers. The black in this piece is about 8+ layers of different colors.

You have not only captured the subjects in great detail, but with a textural richness as well. Top form.
